 Working at GTC

Gateway to the worldwide electric business

Students and professionals not familiar with electric transmission are often misled by our name Georgia Transmission. Although we lack the name recognition of big corporations, it’s about the only attribute we’re missing. When it comes to mission, compensation, benefits, training and the like, we have just about every advantage of large businesses, and many small-business benefits they don’t have. Such as:

  • Millions of people depending on you every minute of the day as the reliable link between power consumption and power generation.
  • A career here is a gateway to the worldwide electric utility business.
  • Competitive pay, benefits, training and responsibility.
  • Camaraderie and recognition that only a small company can provide.

A place where millions depend on you

Our company is the electric transmission arm of the state’s non-profit, community-owned electric utilities that serve about 4 million people, nearly half of Georgia’s population. We plan, build and maintain the power grid that serves our owners, 38 of the state’s 41 electric membership cooperatives. Our construction and maintenance schedules rival those of some of the largest electric utilities in the country.

Our career opportunities

Our company is comprised mostly of engineers and other technical positions. In addition, a team of land agents negotiates and manages easements and land transactions. Our environmental and regulatory specialists ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws. Employment opportunities are most common in:

Engineering and technical fields: Design engineers, planning engineers, test engineers, electronic maintenance engineers, construction inspectors, designers and CAD technicians and project managers.

Business and corporate affairs: Financial analysts, accountants, contracting specialists, procurement agents and public relations specialists.

Operations & maintenance: Electronic control technicians and system maintenance specialists.

Land and environmental services: Land agents and environmental-regulatory specialists.
